MLM and Marketing... What 's The Big Deal?
MLM and marketing used together form a very power tool in your mlm business. Let me give you a first hand example: My upline, Ann Sieg, in one month, through her marketing efforts generated over 1300 highly qualified leads for her team to work. This yielded a very high dollar figure in retail sales and at the same time provided her team with a very consistent flow of highly quality leads. In fact, she had to slow her marketing machine down so that her team of consultants could actually keep up with the consultation requests she was generating through her leads. I can tell you as a member of this team, that good marketing was they only way she achieved such sustainable and consistant results. Targeted Marketing generates highly qualified leads. Highly qualified leads, are people who eager to know what you have to offer and how you can help them. For instance, I remember one fellow contacting me Ann after not hearing from me within a couple days because he was so anxious to receive our services. Generally, we are accustomed to chasing down prospects. However, effective targeted marketing will have the prospects running after you.
So What is the first step?
Marketing is the very first step in the sales process. It is sales in print. The purpose of marketing not always about getting the sale, and is more often about pre-selling. It is to lead people gradually through a natural decision making process where by they end up at your shop front, telling you what they are looking for. When people find you, they are in an open frame of mind to do business. In order for you not to 'blow that all important marketing budget', you need to identify your target market. When you isolate your target market, it is time to decide how to reach them.
How to discover your target market...
Information Marketing
Once you have positioned yourself in the middle of the flow of traffic that you have targeted, the next step is to offer people something. This is often referred to as 'Collateral Marketing'. This is where you invest in people and give them something of value. Why would we want to do this? Because this builds trust and rapport.People most of all value knowledge. If you can give them good quality information and they trust you, then you have a far greater chance of a sale. Information can be delivered via your website or Blog; a PDF ebook, or a auto responder sequence. Once you have done the initial work, this is cost and time efficient ways to deliver your message. Once a person is equipped with the knowledge to solve their problem, it is quite natural that they follow your advice as to which product is best for them.

Offline Marketing
In the marketing process, there comes a point when the human element must kick in, people want to be dealing with people, not machines. One of the key roles of your marketing process is to get qualified people to you so that you are not wasting your time with 'window shoppers'. Once a person has become a customer then Off-line Marketing can be a powerful tool for getting repeat business and referrals. You don't want to be sending post cards and greeting cards to every Tom, Dick, & Harry because it's going to cost you a fortune. Once you have a valued customer though, that is a different matter. It is easier to keep a customer, than to be continually acquiring new ones. This is where off-line marketing can be part of your overall customer/downline retention strategy. A simple, personalized, 'thank you for your business,' greeting card, will go a lot further than you may think.
